Serving the Community since 1976 Mission Statement We are a community-based cooperative, dedicated to offering products, services and leadership which reflects our membership's commitment to healthy living, nutritional awareness and environmental responsibility. Big Enough To Meet Your Needs, Small Enough To Know Your Name Healthy Foods Market is a cooperative business, meaning that we are owned and democratically controlled by our members. We are proud of our experienced and knowledgeable staff that can assist you with your regular purchases, as well as with special inquires and needs. Rockbridge Food Cooperative, d/b/a Healthy Foods Market began in 1973 when a group of local families formed a buying club to purchase organic and natural foods in large quantities. In 1978, the Rockbridge Co-op opened its first storefront in a building in Deavers Alley to sell product that exceeded the needs of the buying club. In 1980, the Co-op opened its doors to non-members and entered the retail business, with its first paid, part-time employees. The store continued to grow, but by 1987, had outgrown the limitations of our Randolph Street location. Late that year, we relocated to our present location at 110 Washington Street. The following year, Rockbridge Food Cooperative was incorporated in the State of Virginia, and in 1989, the business name became Healthy Foods Market. Demand for natural, organic and gourmet products continued to increase throughout the 90’s and the Co-op opened up its expanded store in June of 2000. The remodeled and renovated store provides an integrated retail space of 2100 square feet. Members contributed in all kinds of ways to make the new store possible. This is one of our proudest achievements.
